ANALYSIS OF HOWECOTOURISMIN PROTECTED AREAS INFLUENCE THE DEVELOPMENT OF LOCAL COMMUNITIES

2013

Tourism, which, by its specific, uses natural resources, is an important contribution to environmental damage. In this context, efforts to find and promote holiday forms that have a low environmentalimpact, forms known as ecotourism, ecological tourism, tourism in protected areas, green tourism. Tourism industry stakeholders have become increasingly sensitive to environmental issues and few are those who now believe commercial activities have nothing to do with the development of ecological actions. Also many tour operators believe that the natural resources have economic value only if they are reasonably valued.

Critical Analysis of the Energy Issue: Internationalization and Professional Competences in Journalism

2013

Effects of sulphonylureas on spontaneous motility and induced contractions in rat isolated uterus

1986

Abstract To clarify the action of sulphonylureas on calcium, the effect of tolbutamide and ghbenclamide has been investigated on a Ca-dependent process, the contractile activity of uterine smooth muscle. Both sulphonylureas antagonized the contractions evoked by CaCl2 in a non-competitive manner when the uterus was maintained in depolarizing solution and did not affect the spontaneous contractions of rat uterus. The capacity of tolbutamide and ghbenclamide to relax vanadate-induced contraction of rat uterus in Ca-free medium suggests that sulphonylureas may have an intracellular site of action related to cytosolic free Ca levels, or effect a reduction in Ca action.

GLP-2 as Beneficial Factor in the Glucose Homeostasis in Mice Fed a High Fat Diet

2015

Glucagon like peptide-2 (GLP-2) is a gastrointestinal hormone released in response to dietary nutrients, which acts through a specific receptor, the GLP-2 receptor (GLP-2R). The physiological effects of GLP-2 are multiple, involving also the intestinal adaptation to high fat diet (HFD). In consideration of the well-known relationship between chronic HFD and impaired glucose metabolism, in the present study we examined if the blocking of the GLP-2 signaling by chronic treatment with the GLP-2R antagonist, GLP-2 (3-33), leads to functional consequences in the regulation of glucose metabolism in HFD-fed mice. Compared with animals fed standard diet (STD), mice at the 10th week of HFD showed hy…

Representing Tibetan Buddhism in books on spirituality : A discourse-historical approach

2022

This article looks into how Tibetan Buddhism is framed in terms of East-West dichotomy in six popular books on Buddhism and spirituality. Discourse Historical Approach is employed to uncover the rhetorical representation of Tibetan Buddhism to the readers. A critical post-colonial perspective offers an insight into various power dynamics, arising from these representations, structured according to Yoshikawa's model of intercultural communication between East and West. The various power outcomes of rhetorical styles range from Ethnocentric to Dialogical, with their ethical consequences and problematics discussed.

Are fossils enough? Palaeontological tourism based on local dinosaur discoveries

2020

Fossils of dinosaurs and other tetrapods have long aroused interest of scientists and the public opinion alike. Every finding of a new (especially large) species receives coverage in national and international media, and thus, local fossil discoveries might constitute a good basis for local tourism development. The paper aims to examine whether fossiliferous sites on their own may be enough for the development of palaeontological tourism to occur, or do they require the support of additional amusement infrastructure. For this purpose, the interest in chosen localities was analysed using Google and Wikipedia searches, and was further discussed against a survey on dinoparks and their elements…

Chrzest Mieszka w 966 roku. Ewolucja naukowych teorii na podstawie odkryć archeologicznych

2017

Teorie zmie…

A luminal glycoprotein drives dose-dependent diameter expansion of the Drosophila melanogaster hindgut tube

2012

An important step in epithelial organ development is size maturation of the organ lumen to attain correct dimensions. Here we show that the regulated expression of Tenectin (Tnc) is critical to shape the Drosophila melanogaster hindgut tube. Tnc is a secreted protein that fills the embryonic hindgut lumen during tube diameter expansion. Inside the lumen, Tnc contributes to detectable O-Glycans and forms a dense striated matrix. Loss of tnc causes a narrow hindgut tube, while Tnc over-expression drives tube dilation in a dose-dependent manner. Cellular analyses show that luminal accumulation of Tnc causes an increase in inner and outer tube diameter, and cell flattening within the tube wall,…

Tourism and territorial growth determinants in insular regions: A comparison with mainland regions for some European countries (2008–2019)

2022

The article investigates the different growth patterns of islands and mainland regions by looking at their tourism and territorial characteristics differences. We considered per capita income and employment growth patterns in a panel data model focused on 74 regions in seven European coun- tries from 2008 to 2019. The results show how the impor- tance of some growth factors, especially those related to tourism and environmental sustainability, varies between islands and mainland regions. The article suggests specific policy implications for island regions in line with the European Union guidelines. Our findings support the need to pursue different approaches to sustain growth in islands and…
